Winners at the Scottish Wedding Awards
Matt and I are still buzzing about our win on Monday. Best wedding photographers in south east Scotland!
This came out of the blue for us. We literally had no idea we'd even been nominated. About 4 weeks ago Matt received a phone call, which he related to me like this
Matt - "I got a phone call today."
Me - "Oh yeah, who was it?"
Matt - "I don't know, I was busy doing [something] when they called. I heard the word award."
Me - "Ok, what was it about?"
Matt - "I don't know, I couldn't hear the call. I asked four times who they were but the phone cut off every time they told me. I was too embarrassed to ask a fifth time. They said they'd email us."
Me - "Awesome. Somebody called you about something. I hope it wasn't important."
About an hour later we were in the middle of doing our tax return when Matt suddenly realised he'd heard the word Scottish Wedding Award in the phone call. We got excited and stopped doing our taxes to do something much more important. Hunt for who had phoned us. That's when we received the email
Once again on behalf of the Creative Oceanic team congratulations on being shortlisted as finalists at The 4th Official Scottish Wedding Awards.
Well that confirmed it. Matt had definitely not imagined a phone call and we were indeed finalists. The next few weeks were a bit of a blur whilst we imagined that we either were going to win, or someone had made a mistake and rang the wrong people. We decided that we'd go along to the awards ceremony, just in case they hadn't made a mistake. That turned out to be a good plan because the evening was great fun
We got dressed in black tie evening wear and had an excellent time meeting lots of very talented wedding professionals. When it came to announcing the winners, we became more and more nervous. Maybe there was a chance this wasn't a mistake, what happens if we begin to think we could win and then don't? I decided to get a Tequila and stop thinking about it.
When I got back it was just about time to announce the photography awards. We joked that we'd win one for the table since everyone was so nice, then sat back and relaxed, fully under the impression that we done enough to even get here; there was no way they'd call our name.
Then they called our name. Matt and I looked at each other, said something unrepeatable for this blog, got up and walked to the stage, walked back to our chairs and got our jackets then returned to the stage.
We only went and won an award! Best photographers in the south east region of Scotland. That's some achievement considering the competition we were up against. I still can't quite believe it. Just in case it hadn't happened I took a selfie on stage with the other regional winners.
This is proof that it really happened. Luckily, there's also a couple of respectable photos too
So there you have it, we worked hard, cared a lot about all the couples we met and at then were rewarded for our efforts with a night of fun at the Scottish Wedding Awards in Glasgow, in a swanky hotel on the banks of the Clyde.
All that's left to say is, thank you to everyone who voted for us, who nominated us in secret and who gave us the best thank you ever!
Love the blog! You deserve the award as you both obviously take great care with your clients and, most importantly, their photos. So glad it wasn't a mistake! :)
