The stories of the day
I felt inspired today to make a diptych from some photographs from a past wedding. It's nice to be able to share these stories; a story like this (and the skill to tell them in images) are one of the reasons you would hire a wedding photographer, rather than ask a guest to capture the moments on camera.
So, what's the story behind these photographs?
Well, Claire and John wanted to celebrate a guest's birthday, which coincided with their wedding day. Instead of a wedding cake they had a rainbow birthday cake made, the plan was to surprise the guest, Colin, with this cake when he arrived.
No-one apart from the wedding couple and Matt and I knew this would happen. There was quite a build up to this moment for us because Colin was casually late to the wedding reception. Guests started asking questions about the wedding cake and it was proving more and more difficult to avoid answering them. Colin did eventually arrive, the cake was brought out and everyone was delighted when the surprise was revealed; however, the universe had a surprise for us all. As Colin cut the cake, the knife broke!
Matt was quick off the mark and caught the broken knife in the cake, and some rather hilarious photographs of Colin posing with just a handle, which Claire and John adore. These are the moments that Matt and I train for, to ensure that when the unexpected happens, we capture that personal history for you to look back on in years to come.
